Why choose between sport and culture?

An event labelled Cultural Olympiad and Land of Play

The 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games took place in Paris. To mark this event, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has created the Cultural Olympiad label. It rewards initiatives that link sport and culture. It encourages companies, artists, associations, local authorities and sports clubs to become involved in the cultural programme for the Games.
The Land of Play label promotes sporting initiatives throughout the country. It puts sport at the heart of local communities. Its ambition is to get the whole country excited and create momentum.
The "Vogue la pirogue" event has been awarded both labels for its prehistoric logboat regatta, which combines archaeological knowledge with sporting activity.

European Archaeology Days

"Vogue la pirogue" took place during European Archaeology Days (JEA). Every year, these days allow the public to discover or rediscover their past. This event is organised by the National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (Inrap), under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture.
Thousands of sites open their doors for special events, including excavation sites, villages, educational and fun activities, meetings with researchers, laboratory visits, exhibitions and screenings. This is an opportunity for visitors to learn more about the profession of archaeologist, to become aware of the rich archaeological heritage around them and to discover the history of the regions.
Further information about the JEA can be found here: Accueuil Journées européennes de l'archéologie
