Media Library
Since the ‘Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps’ were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2011, a large number of books, brochures, film clips, documentaries, etc. on pile dwellings and world heritage have been published. Here you will find a small selection of these, as well as a download area with information material and, of course, the annual PalafittesNEWS published by the International Coordination Group.
PalafittesNEWS
In 2019, at the meeting of the International Coordination Group in Vienna, the idea of publishing the ICG's activities in the six countries in a joint annual report was first raised.
The first edition of PalafittesNEWS was published in 2020. It contains reports on the protection, research and mediation of the World Heritage Property in the six countries, as well as recurring sections such as ‘Adversary of the Year’ and ‘How perception changes’. The articles are written in the respective national language with an English summary in order to preserve linguistic diversity and at the same time make at least the summary accessible to as many readers as possible.
The PalafittesNEWS is available for download here, but Iit is also available as a free print version from the contact points in the six countries.
Enjoy reading and discovering!
Information Brochure

It is available for download here, but can also be ordered in print form at info@palafittes.

On the occasion of the inscription on the World Heritage List, a 100-page brochure on the pile dwellings and their special features was published with the participation of scientists from all six World Heritage countries. It is available in three languages and in two different versions (EN, SI, FR and DE, IT, FR).
It can be downloaded here, but also be ordered as a print version at info@palafittes.
Nomination Dossier & Management Plan
The nomination dossier contains all the information submitted to UNESCO in support of the site's inclusion on the World Heritage List.
The management plan for a World Heritage site defines a planning and action concept that is developed individually for each World Heritage site. The management plan sets out objectives and measures to ensure the protection, maintenance, research and communication of the site, as well as its further development. It should be updated at regular intervals so that it can be adapted to changing conditions and influences.
The World Heritage Site ‘Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps’ currently undergoes a comprehensive review of the joint management plan of the six countries every ten years. The action plan with concrete measures for protection, research and communication, on the other hand, is updated every five years in order to be able to react as flexibly as possible to rapidly changing (environmental) conditions.
